A few of our insider tricks to help you enjoy your dhalpuris, parathas, and aloo puris over and over again.
If you are part of a Caribbean household, chances are that when you are looking for something to eat you will find a piece of paratha or dhalpuri tucked away in the fridge or freezer. Eating it right out of the bag might not be a great idea and popping it directly into the microwave will only remove the moisture from the roti making it hard and difficult to chew. We are sharing a few of our favourite, tried and tested ways to reheat your favourite roti.
When reheating in a microwave, place your roti between two damp tissues and microwave for about 30 to 45 seconds, be sure to use a microwave cover as well. Only unwrap the roti when you sit down to eat it, this will keep your roti moist and ready for your favourite curry or even a touch of butter.
Another method that we found very effective, especially when using one of our Eat-Easy packs, is removing the roti and defrosting it at room temperature for about 15 to 20 minutes. Reheat on the stove using a tawa or frying pan while covering it with a damp paper towel for approximately 30 to 40 seconds. This moisture from the paper towel will be absorbed by the roti allowing it to stay fresh for longer.
Another of our favourite method involves using a conventional or toaster oven. Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place your roti on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and sprinkle lightly with water. Place the roti in the middle oven rack for 2 to 3 minutes.
We hope these simple methods with help you prolong the life of our roti. Don’t forget to get your favourite pack part of your weekly meal prep and have them delivered to your door through our weekly scheduled delivery service across the GTA.
